SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL (SSC) is an elected 10 member group: the Principal, 3 classroom teachers, 1 non-classroom staff member, and 5 parents. The SSC meets monthly to ensure that all supplemental resources are focused on providing a strong academic program that ensures student success and achievement. This includes reviewing student progress, test scores, school budgets, school safety, district updates, and the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA). School Site Council meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month from 2:45 to 3:45 PM. SSC meetings are open to all parents; however only elected representatives are voting members. We currently have four parent seats open (each a two-year term) and elections for SSC will take place during Curriculum Night.
ENGLISH LEARNER ADVIOSRY COMMITTEE (ELAC) is a school-based committee that meets bimonthly whose role is to advise the principal and the SSC on programs and services for English Learner students and other school issues. This is an opportunity for families to learn about the program’s legal requirements, review overall EL progress, and discuss interventions/supports needed for student success and achievement.
Additionally, this committee provides parent trainings to ensure students are successful in school. Some topics that will be covered this year will be the importance of attendance, supporting your child with homework, increasing literacy in the home, and social/emotional growth.
The Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION promotes the growth of a strong, all-inclusive school-wide community and supports the supplemental programs for Sotomayor Elementary School students.
Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School empowers students, staff, and parents to become active members of our learning community. The PTA organizes several fun events during the school year that truly bring the school’s community together, such as our Fall Festival and Family Dance!
