Dear Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School Community,
My name is Pedro Parra Hurtado, and I am truly honored and excited to serve as the new Principal of Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School. Joining this incredible community is both a privilege and a responsibility that I embrace with great enthusiasm.
As an educator, I believe that every child deserves to feel seen, valued, challenged, and supported. I am committed to ensuring that all students receive a high-quality education that nurtures their academic, social, emotional, and creative growth. Our students benefit from unique opportunities in Digital Media Arts, Dance, and Music, as well as our Spanish Dual Language Immersion Program (90/10 model) and Special Day Classes (SDC). Together, these programs help create an environment where every learner can thrive and discover their strengths.
As your principal, my focus will be on building meaningful relationships with students, families, and staff. I believe that strong schools are built on trust, communication, and collaboration. My goal is to be visible, approachable, and engaged in the daily life of our school. Whether it’s greeting students in the morning, visiting classrooms, celebrating successes, or partnering with families, I want every member of our community to know that they belong and that their voice matters.
At Sonia Sotomayor Elementary, we are creating a culture of thinking, one where curiosity is encouraged, questions are welcomed, and students are empowered to become confident learners and leaders. We recognize that each child is unique, and we are committed to helping every student reach their fullest academic, social, emotional, and artistic potential.
I also believe that education is most successful when schools and families work together. Parents and family members are essential partners in our students’ success, and I encourage you to become actively involved in our school community. I am genuinely excited to get to know each of you and to learn about the traditions, strengths, and aspirations of our school community. Together, we will continue building a school where students feel safe, inspired, and empowered to succeed.
