First week of school was a huge success! Thank you for entrusting your children with us each day. I wanted to take a moment to thank each of you for contributing to a successful first week of school. We are so thankful for our teachers and staff that put in the extra effort to make the first week of the school year extra special for our Snowy Owls, as they prepare for an amazing year of learning. Your support, enthusiasm, and hard work have made a fantastic start to the year.

Let’s continue working together to make this a wonderful year for our Snowy Owls!

Snowy Owl Expectation Focus

Our goal at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School is to create and maintain a positive and safe learning environment for all and hold students accountable for being positive forces within our school community. The Snowy Owl Expectations are taught, modeled, and practiced throughout all grade levels and locations around campus. Over the next two weeks, our teachers and staff will be focusing and reinforcing the expected behaviors for recess. We appreciate your support in asking your Snowy Owls at home what specific behaviors allow them to be safe, respectful, responsible, and kind during recess.

Traffic Alert

On Tuesday, July 30th and Wednesday, July 31st, Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School will be hosting Multi-Tiered Systems of Support Trainings for CVESD starting at 8:00 AM. I encourage all Sotomayor families to please walk and/or arrive early to campus to acquire parking and avoid the extra congestion of traffic.

Safety Update

We will be having our first mandatory monthly Fire Drill at 1:15 PM on Monday, July 29th. The main office will remain closed once the drill commences and remain closed until its conclusion. Any parent on campus at the time of the drill, will be asked to participate in the drill process and follow the directions of school staff. Please speak to your children about the importance of practicing school drills as they allow us to know what steps to take in case of emergencies.

Back to School Night

We will be having our Back to School Night on Thursday, August 1st from 5:00-6:30 PM where parents will get an opportunity to meet our Sotomayor staff, learn about grade level curriculum, daily routine and procedures, become a PTA member, and much more. This is a night for legal parents and guardians only. Please remember that this event is not meant to be a parent conference, it is designed to provide you with information about the class and answer general questions. We ask that you please keep your children at home so that our staff may share important information with families. Limited childcare will be provided by Sonia Sotomayor Elementary in the TK/Kindergarten playground area.

School Readiness Workshops

The Chula Vista Elementary School District Early Childhood Education (ECE) Department invites parents/guardians and their children aged three to five to participate in a series of engaging workshops designed to develop valuable skills for school readiness, motor skill enhancement, and early literacy and numeracy. Parents/guardians will also be able to participate in fun and engaging
learning activities with their children.
