A heartfelt THANK YOU to our incredible Snowy Owl community that supported all of our school activities and events this past week! From our APEX Fun Run to Red Ribbon Spirit Week to our first annual Literature Character Parade, it was wonderful to see our entire community come together and create lasting memories!
We cannot express how grateful we are for your immense support and active participation in the APEX Fun Run this year! The Apex Fun Run not only allowed us to raise funds for our school but also brought our community together. It provided an opportunity for our school to celebrate our collective achievements. Our Snowy Owls truly enjoyed the week of lessons, friendly competition, and the opportunity to have fun running with their peers.
Our deepest gratitude to our PTA, the volunteers, and families who came out to support our students. Whether you were cheering from the sidelines, helping send pledges to family and friends throughout the week, or assisting with logistics, your unwavering support played a crucial role in helping our school accomplish its goal. We are fortunate to have such an incredible community supporting our students and our school. We would like to extend our sincerest appreciation for making this endeavor a resounding success!

Snowy Owl Expectation Focus
Our goal at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School is to create and maintain a positive and safe learning environment for all and hold students accountable for being positive forces within our school community. As part of this effort, we are continuing to focus on conflict resolution strategies across our campus to equip students with the tools to solve problems independently and thoughtfully.
Our goal is to guide students in understanding that conflicts are a natural part of relationships and to help them learn how to work through disagreements with empathy and fairness. Whether through discussions, peer mediation, or structured activities, we are fostering skills such as:
- Active listening to understand others’ perspectives.
- Calm communication to express feelings and needs respectfully.
- Problem-solving techniques to find mutually acceptable solutions.
- Accountability in taking responsibility for actions.
We encourage you to talk with your child at home about the importance of working through challenges with kindness and cooperation. With practice, these essential life skills will empower them to build positive relationships now and in the future. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to help our students grow both academically and socially.
