PTA Updates

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Movie Night! We hope you had a great time and enjoyed taking photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus. 🎅🤶

As we wrap up the semester, we have an exciting week ahead:

📚 Scholastic Book Fair

Students will be able to visit the book fair on Tuesday and Wednesday with their classes to check it out and create their wishlists. All sales will take place after school. Be sure to set up your eWallet now; it’s the easiest and safest way for your student to shop. See the information attached on how to set it up.

  • Book Fair Sales (Room 308)
    • Monday–Wednesday, 2:30–3:30 PM
    • Thursday, 4–6 PM (Family Night)
    • Friday1–2 PM

In addition to the Scholastic Book Fair, we will also be hosting the Spanish Book Truck! DI classes will be able to visit and make purchases on Tuesday from 11:30 AM–2:00 PM. The truck will also be on-site during Family Night on Thursday, from 4-6PM. If you would like to shop online at http://www.fceusa.com/, there is a specific tab for our school where teachers/families can see the book catalog with reading age labels for easy browsing. Books are either $5, $10, or $15 (tax included if paying with cash). If using a credit card, there is a finance fee. Credit Cards, Apple Pay, and Venmo are also accepted.

Volunteers interested in helping with sales can sign up on our Scholastic Fair Homepage.

🛑 Note: For both the Scholastic Book Fair and the Spanish Book Truck, students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to shop after school.

💌 Week of Gratitude
Next week, we’re also celebrating our incredible faculty and staff for their hard work this semester! Please check out a few of their favorite things here. We will continue to update as we receive additional responses.

  • Monday – Sweet Start: Bring a teacher or administrator their favorite candy or treat.
  • Thank You Tuesday: Celebrate our amazing staff–secretaries, custodians, cafeteria team, noon-duty supervisors, LEAD, and YMCA! Our school does not run without their hard work 🙂 You can share a letter or card, draw a picture, offer a sweet treat, or surprise them with something special!
  • Wish List Wednesday: Purchase an item from your teacher’s Book Fair or classroom wishlist.
  • Thoughtful Thursday: Share a letter or card expressing your gratitude.
  • Festive Friday: Give an open-ended gift of your choice. PTA will be providing lunch for the faculty and staff.

Finally, thank you for your incredible support as we established the PTA and got things off the ground this semester! It’s been a lot of hard work, but we made it—and we’re excited to bring you even more in the spring. We also have openings on our executive board for those interested in getting more involved. If you are interested and available to support, please email soniasotomayorpta@gmail.com

No amount of time is too small! No previous training is necessary, simply your desire to be involved. It is only through everyone’s collective efforts that we can continue to cultivate and foster an enriching school culture for our Snowy Owl community.

We hope you have a relaxing and enjoyable holiday break. Here’s to building an even stronger Snowy Owl community together next year! 🦉💙💛

Working together,

Sonia Sotomayor PTA

Snowy Owl Expectation Focus

Our goal at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School is to create and maintain a positive and safe learning environment for all and hold students accountable for being positive forces within our school community. The Snowy Owl Expectations are taught, modeled, and practiced throughout all grade levels and locations around campus. For the next week, we will continue to focus and reinforce the expected behaviors for dismissal. We appreciate your support in asking your Snowy Owls at home what specific behaviors allow them to be safe, respectful, responsible, and kind at dismissal.
