We are extremely grateful to our first responders, CAL FIRE, and fire fighters for all of their work in battling and helping contain the Border 2 Fire! We are very fortunate that the local fires did not place our community boundaries at risk and we hope everyone is safe and secure during this time. I am happy to share that our school will be open tomorrow and operating on a regular schedule. The weather will determine if we enact our Inclement Weather Schedule for morning and lunch recess. We are looking forward to welcoming all of our Snowy Owls back to school tomorrow.

Last week was a wonderful week at Sotomayor where we celebrated several of our Snowy Owls. We celebrated the achievements of our English Learners who met all criteria in order to be Reclassified Fluent English Proficient (RFEP) with an intimate breakfast alongside their families. Students were honored with a certificate and small gift for their accomplishments.

We concluded the week with commending our 4th-6th grade student speech contest representatives who were courageous to represent their respective classrooms in our school speech contest as they each spoke to this year’s theme: A Letter To My Future Self.

We look forward to recognizing more of our Snowy Owls this coming week in our January Awards Assembly!

The countdown to The Great Kindness Challenge has begun! This coming week, our students will come together to celebrate kindness, demonstrate compassion, express gratitude, and actively showcase their LOVE in various uplifting ways. We’re eagerly anticipating it! Huge shout out to Ms. Cate for taking the initiative and designing our “Be the I in Kind” poster for all of our Sotomayor community to utilize as a photography opportunity during our Kindness Challenge Week!

We want to encourage all of our students to come together with others around the world and complete Acts of Kindness and participate in our Kindness Challenge Spirit Week! Kindness is contagious and its through kindness that we can help move hearts, minds, and human kind in making our world a better place.

Snowy Owl Expectation Focus

Our goal at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School is to create and maintain a positive and safe learning environment for all and hold students accountable for being positive forces within our school community. The Snowy Owl Expectations are taught, modeled, and practiced throughout all grade levels and locations around campus. For the next weeks, we will focus and reinforce the expected behaviors for restrooms. We appreciate your support in asking your Snowy Owls at home what specific behaviors allow them to be safe, respectful, responsible, and kind at restrooms.
