On behalf of the entire school staff, I wanted to thank our school community and amazing PTA for your generosity and thoughtfulness during our Staff Appreciation Week. We were overwhelmed with the outpouring of signs of affection for our team and wanted to provide you with our sincere thanks and gratitude for making every single one of us feel appreciated and valued!
On this Mother’s Day, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to all the mothers, grandmothers, guardians, and mother figures who are part of our school family. Your love, guidance, and unwavering support help shape not only your children, but our entire community.

We also recognize the staff, teachers, and volunteers who nurture and care for our students every day with compassion and dedication. Whether at home or in the classroom, your influence makes a lasting difference.
Wishing you a day filled with love, rest, and recognition. Happy Mother’s Day!
CAASPP State Continues this Week
Our end of year testing continues this week with many students in 3rd-5th grade taking our state CAASPP testing. Please make EVERY effort to make sure your child is at school and on time these days. Please do not plan vacations or doctors/dentist appointments during this time. Please remember the following:
- Ensure your child is well-rested.
- Encourage your child to eat a healthy breakfast.
- Think positive thoughts-you can encourage your child to take slow deep breaths and think of something that makes them happy if they start to feel stressed during the test.
- Do your best – Our Snowy Owls will do great! Encourage your child to do their best to show what they know and that they are ready!
- To avoid any test irregularities, cell phones must turned off and put away, or may be collected by teachers.
- Smart watches must be left at home.
Please review the important testing information below and mark your calendars with the upcoming assessment dates.

We want to thank you for being actively involved in your child’s education and for your support!
Snowy Owl Expectation Focus
Our goal at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School is to create and maintain a positive and safe learning environment for all and hold students accountable for being positive forces within our school community. The Snowy Owl Expectations are taught, modeled, and practiced throughout all grade levels and locations around campus. For the next week, we will continue to focus and reinforce the expected behaviors for recess. We appreciate your support in asking your Snowy Owls at home what specific behaviors allow them to be safe, respectful, responsible, and kind at recess.

LEAD
CVESD’s LEAD Hub program provides before and after school programs at all district schools. LEAD Hub aims to create a safe, supportive environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive. The program combines recreation, homework assistance, and enrichment activities. LEAD Hub is available at no cost for CVESD students in transitional kindergarten through sixth grade and is aligned with the school calendar. LEAD Hub hours will vary by school site and depend on the school’s start and end times. Please note that not all locations have a before school program.
Spaces are limited. The highest priority is given to students identified as “unduplicated” (foster youth, unsheltered, students living in motels/hotels, temporarily doubled up, students in temporary shelters, English language learners, and socioeconomically disadvantaged students). At the time of registration, students must be identified in the district database as belonging to one of these categories. After the highest priority students are registered, additional students will be registered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Registration Dates:
- Monday, May 5, 2025 – Friday, May 16, 2025 – Registration opens at 6 p.m.
- Accepted and Waitlist Notification:
- Friday, June 6, 2025 – Email notification by 6 p.m.
