School will resume for all students on Tuesday, September 2nd and it will be a regular day with TK/K students being dismissed at 2:15PM and 1st-6th grade students being dismissed at 2:30PM.

Keep checking our school blog, our weekly happenings are updated every Sunday. You can also opt into following our blog and receive any new posts delivered directly to your email inbox. Stay tuned for more updates, and thank you for your continued support!
Fall Parent Conferences
As the quarter quickly comes to a close, classroom teachers will be sharing and communicating appointment times with parents for Fall Parent Conferences. Fall Parent Conferences will be taking place from Thursday, September 11th-Thursday, September 18th. We will be on minimum day schedule each of those days and all TK/K students will be dismissed at 12:50PM and 1st-6th grade students will be dismissed at 1:05PM.
During these conferences, parents will be informed on their student’s progress, beginning of year baseline data, strengths, and goals for following quarter. Working together we can support the measurable growth of each of our students.

Snowy Owl Expectation Focus
Our goal at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School is to create and maintain a positive and safe learning environment for all and hold students accountable for being positive forces within our school community. The Snowy Owl Expectations are taught, modeled, and practiced throughout all grade levels and locations around campus. For the next two weeks, we will focus and reinforce the expected behaviors for hallways and stairs. We appreciate your support in asking your Snowy Owls at home what specific behaviors allow them to be safe, respectful, responsible, and kind in our hallways and stairs.

Attendance Awareness Month
September is attendance awareness month and we will setting our goal to have 96% attendance each week. Attendance is one of the major factors when predicting future success in school! If children don’t show up for school regularly, they miss out on fundamental reading and math skills and the chance to build a habit of good attendance that will carry them into college and careers. Data from a California study found that children who were chronically absent (missing 2 or more days a month) were far less likely to read proficiently at the end of third grade. Please make sure that your child is at school on time unless he/she is sick.
