THANK YOU to our incredible Snowy Owl community that supported all of our school activities and events this past week. From our Red Ribbon Spirit Week to our Trunk or Treat to our Literature Character Parade, it was wonderful to see our entire community come together and create lasting memories! We are also incredibly grateful to the volunteers and staff whose time, planning, and dedication made all of these events such a success. And to our Sotomayor families, thank you for continually showing up, supporting our school, and helping us build these traditions.

Without further ado, here are the Trunk or Treat winners:
1. Harry Potter (Pinkham)
2. Haunted House (2nd Grade)
3. Under the Sea (3rd Grade)
Our PTA will be visiting your classrooms on Monday to provide you with your prizes!

Our classrooms have been exploring the rich traditions of Día de los Muertos and have created meaningful projects to honor this beautiful celebration of life and remembrance. This week please join us in celebrating Día de los Muertos by visiting our beautiful ofrendas on display in the indoor amphitheater before school. You are invited to view the wonderful artwork and classroom projects that helped create our Día de los Muertos Altar. Our Dual Language Immersion team would like to give a special thank you to the PTA for their generous donations, classrooms that participated, and all the teachers, PTA members and parent volunteers who helped bring our first Día de los Muertos display to life. We hope you enjoy this meaningful celebration!

Snowy Owl Expectation Focus
Our goal at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School is to create and maintain a positive and safe learning environment for all and hold students accountable for being positive forces within our school community. As part of this effort, we are continuing to focus on conflict resolution strategies across our campus to equip students with the tools to solve problems independently and thoughtfully.
Our goal is to guide students in understanding that conflicts are a natural part of relationships and to help them learn how to work through disagreements with empathy and fairness. Whether through discussions, peer mediation, or structured activities, we are fostering skills such as:
- Active listening to understand others’ perspectives.
- Calm communication to express feelings and needs respectfully.
- Problem-solving techniques to find mutually acceptable solutions.
- Accountability in taking responsibility for actions.
We encourage you to talk with your child at home about the importance of working through challenges with kindness and cooperation. With practice, these essential life skills will empower them to build positive relationships now and in the future. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to help our students grow both academically and socially.
