It was another amazing week at Sotomayor as we launched into our Spring Parent Teacher Conferences, embraced our love for literacy in our Spring Scholastic Book Fair, danced the afternoon away in our Spring Fling Family Dance, and concluded the week with our students showcasing their talents in our 2nd Annual Snowy Owl Talent Show!

This year’s Talent Show was filled with excitement, creativity, and school spirit as students showcased a wide variety of talents in front of their peers, staff, and families. From energetic dance routines and musical performances to impressive and creative acts, our students demonstrated not only their talents but also their courage and confidence. It was wonderful to see so many students step outside their comfort zones and share something special with our school community.

Events like the Talent Show remind us how important it is to celebrate student voice, creativity, and individuality. We are incredibly proud of all of our performers for their hard work and bravery in taking the stage. A special thank you goes out to our staff and volunteers who helped organize this memorable event and to our families for supporting our students and cheering them on.

We look forward to continuing to create opportunities for our Snowy Owls to shine. We are excited to close out Quarter 3 with our Snowy Owls and celebrate all their hard work thus far in the year!

Come pick up lost sweaters, jackets, water bottles, and lunch boxes at our Lost and Found. Any unclaimed items will be donated to a local charity at the end of quarter on March 20th. Be sure to write your child’s first and last name on all personal items (hoodies, jackets, lunch bags, water bottles, and backpacks) to avoid losing any items brought to school.

Don’t forget that MINIMUM DAYS for Parent Teacher Conferences continue all week, March 16th-20th! SPRING BREAK is March 23rd-April 3rd and Quarter 4 begins on Monday, April 6th, as a Minimum Day with early dismissal for all our students.

It is hard to believe our next break is already here! Spring Break begins on March 23rd and continues through April 3rd.  Students will return to school on Monday, April 6th and follow a minimum day schedule. We hope you enjoy the time off with your loved ones.

We encourage all our students to continue reading and practicing math over the break. Students in grades K-6 have access to all district online learning programs at home. This is a great way to practice skills over break. Go to https://www.cvesd.org/district/students. Also, you may want to have your 3rd-6th grade child practice a few sample test items to help prepare for CAASPP testing in May: Practice Tests

Thank you for your partnership and support! We will see everyone on Monday, April 6th, 2026 with a Minimum Day dismissal!

Arrival/Dismissal Traffic

Recently there has been an increase in the number of unattended vehicles in our red fire lanes and unloading zone. Please remember you may only park in the designated parking areas in the front of the school or around the school.

Also, ensuring you pull all the way forward in the drop-off and pick-up zones, also helps maintain the flow of traffic. We ask for your patience and kindness when being reminded of traffic expectations. It is important to plan for a few extra minutes to accommodate the over 600 students participating in arrival and dismissal. Thank you to all our families who regularly follow our traffic patterns and for keeping all our Snowy Owls safe!

Day with the Chef

Our district chef will be back to prepare a fresh, made from scratch lunch item to serve to our Snowy Owls on Monday, March 16th. He will be preparing a cheeseburger mac & cheese and a ham, egg & cheese biscuit for breakfast the following day.

We will still offer the other normal choices that are on our lunch menu. We look forward to this fun and delicious opportunity for our Snowy Owl students!

Snowy Owl Expectation Focus

Our goal at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School is to create and maintain a positive and safe learning environment for all and hold students accountable for being positive forces within our school community. The Snowy Owl Expectations are taught, modeled, and practiced throughout all grade levels and locations around campus. For the next week, we will focus and reinforce the expected behaviors for lunch tables. We appreciate your support in asking your Snowy Owls at home what specific behaviors allow them to be safe, respectful, responsible, and kind at the lunch tables.
