On Tuesday, May 27th, our co-ed LEAD basketball team will be competing in the semifinals at the Otay Recreation Center, and we couldn’t be prouder of them this season. We are confident they will give their all on the court. Good luck, Snowy Owls! We are cheering you on every step of the way!
Continuous Enrollment
Many parents have been inquiring about residency verification for the upcoming 2025-26 school year, the time has finally arrived!
This week, starting on Tuesday, May 27th enrollment for continuing students will launch. You should receive an email from DoNotReply@cvesd.org. Check your inbox, spam, and junk email folders for the email. Each email will have your child’s unique snap code. This must be completed for students to be placed on a classroom roster.
For families with multiple children enrolled in our district, expect to receive an email for each child. Please complete the form by June 6th, 2025, to secure your child’s spot for the next academic year. If your family will be moving and your student will not be returning to Sonia Sotomayor Elementary next year, please inform our front office by emailing leticia.real@cvesd.org.
Breakfast and Lunch with the Chef
Last day for Breakfast and Lunch with the Chef for the year! Our district chef will prepare a fresh, made from scratch breakfast and lunch item to serve to our Snowy Owls during their regular breakfast and lunch period. He will be at Sotomayor on Friday, May 30th. He will be preparing a delicious yogurt parfait for breakfast and a teriyaki chicken sandwich with coleslaw for lunch.
We will still offer the other normal choices that are on our lunch menu. We look forward to this fun and delicious opportunity again for our Snowy Owls!
Snowy Owl Expectation Focus
Our goal at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School is to create and maintain a positive and safe learning environment for all and hold students accountable for being positive forces within our school community. The Snowy Owl Expectations are taught, modeled, and practiced throughout all grade levels and locations around campus. For the next week, we will continue to focus and reinforce conflict resolution. We appreciate your support in asking your Snowy Owls at home what specific behaviors allow them to be safe, respectful, responsible, and kind when resolving conflict.

Please be sure to plan family events around our scheduled school breaks so that students can attend school every day. Lost and Found Items
Missing any lost jackets, water bottles, and lunchboxes? Please take a moment to browse our Lost and Found for any of your child’s items. At the end of the quarter, we will be donating the items to those in need. The Lost and Found is located in front of our school before and after school.
Last Call for Library Books
All library books were due Friday, May 21st! Please check with your child and around your home to locate any school library books. Returning these books promptly will help us prepare our library for the next school year and ensure that all students have access to our wonderful collection.

YMCA Character Builders Registration 2025-2026
We’re excited to share that Character Builder registration is now open for the 2025–2026 school year! Character Builders is an affordable way to ensure your child is in a safe, low ratio, fun, and supportive environment while offering times for working families. Each day includes activities to help students learn, build life skills, and develop healthy relationships — including STEAM projects, games, homework support, mindfulness activities and more! Y staff are trained to focus on social emotional learning and have Behavior Support Resources to ensure the wellbeing of each student. Scholarships are available for families that qualify and they accept 3rd party Child Care Aware Fee for the Military.
