Continuous Enrollment
Verification of Residency started on Tuesday, May 28, 2023, emails were sent from PowerSchool for each student on Tuesday. Please check all your inboxes including junk mail. This is for current students that are returning next school year.
Enrollment must be completed by June 7th to secure a spot at Sotomayor Elementary. All families are required to complete the Continuing Student Enrollment process. If you are having difficult locating the email or the system sent you misinformation on your child, please contact our front office.
If your family will be moving and your student will not be returning to Sonia Sotomayor Elementary next year, please inform our front office by emailing leticia.real@cvesd.org.
🚗 Safety Reminder for Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up 🚸
To help ensure the safety of all students, staff, and families, please remember to follow these important guidelines during drop-off and pick-up:
- Drive Slowly – Stay within posted speed limits and be extra cautious near crosswalks and school entrances.
- Stay Alert – Avoid distractions like cell phones while driving through the school zone.
- Use Designated Areas – Only use the approved drop-off and pick-up zones. Do not double park or let students exit vehicles in traffic lanes.
- Be Respectful – Follow staff directions and be courteous to other drivers and pedestrians.
- Yield to Pedestrians – Always stop for crossing guards and watch for children entering crosswalks.

Snowy Owl Expectation Focus
Our goal at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School is to create and maintain a positive and safe learning environment for all and hold students accountable for being positive forces within our school community. The Snowy Owl Expectations are taught, modeled, and practiced throughout all grade levels and locations around campus. For the next week, we will continue to focus and reinforce conflict resolution. We appreciate your support in asking your Snowy Owls at home what specific behaviors allow them to be safe, respectful, responsible, and kind when resolving conflict.
Yearbooks are here!
Great News! Our yearbooks have arrived and will be delivered to your child’s classroom this week. All preordered books will be given to the classroom teacher for distribution. We can’t wait to take a glimpse of our memories in the yearbook. A grand applause to our Yearbook Advisor Ms. Chatham for the countless hours spent capturing our Sotomayor memories and creating the yearbook!

Hello Sotomayor Families, your input is valuable to our program to continue growing and determine what extended learning opportunities we should offer to our students. Please fill out this form to help us decide which clubs would have more interest and how we should proceed with the upcoming quarter. Keep in mind, this is not a registration form, all registrations for the clubs will be directly on our Jumbula site.

Don’t forget the 2025-2026 school calendar is now available! You can find it posted on both the district and our website. We’ve included all the key dates for the upcoming school year. Please be sure to plan family events around our scheduled school breaks so that students can attend school every day. Lost and Found Items
Missing any lost jackets, water bottles, and lunchboxes? Please take a moment to browse our Lost and Found for any of your child’s items. At the end of the quarter, we will be donating the items to those in need. The Lost and Found is located in front of our school before and after school.
Last Call for Library Books
All library books were due Friday, May 21st! Please check with your child and around your home to locate any school library books. Returning these books promptly will help us prepare our library for the next school year and ensure that all students have access to our wonderful collection.
YMCA Character Builders Registration 2025-2026
We’re excited to share that Character Builder registration is open for the 2025–2026 school year! Character Builders is an affordable way to ensure your child is in a safe, low ratio, fun, and supportive environment while offering times for working families. Each day includes activities to help students learn, build life skills, and develop healthy relationships — including STEAM projects, games, homework support, mindfulness activities and more! Y staff are trained to focus on social emotional learning and have Behavior Support Resources to ensure the wellbeing of each student. Scholarships are available for families that qualify and they accept 3rd party Child Care Aware Fee for the Military.
