Our Snowy Owls completed their second week and have shown remarkable enthusiasm and progress in modeling our Snowy Owl Expectations of being Safe, Respectful, Responsible, and Kind. It was great to see all of our Sotomayor families at our Back to School Night this past week. For those families that weren’t able to join us, please see the slide deck below that was reviewed during our Title I and Principal Welcome.
Our goal at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School is to create and maintain a positive and safe learning environment for all and hold students accountable for being positive forces within our school community. The Snowy Owl Expectations are taught, modeled, and practiced throughout all grade levels and locations around campus. This week we will continue to focus and reinforce the expected behaviors for recess. We appreciate your support in asking your Snowy Owls at home what specific behaviors allow them to be safe, respectful, responsible, and kind during recess.

CVESD Application Update

CAASPP Student Score Reports (SSRs) On Home Access Center

The Chula Vista Elementary School District will notify families on Monday, August 4th that their child’s individual CAASPP scores from 2024-25 school year are available in the Home Access Center (HAC). CVESD utilizes the HAC to share SSRs for the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) and English Learner Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) with parents and guardians. The HAC allows parents and guardians to securely review, download, and save student results quickly and conveniently. The notification will include directions on how families can view the results on HAC. Please click on the link below to view instructions on how to login to the Home Access Center.

Volunteer Orientation

We love our volunteers who support our school and staff at Sotomayor! Our team is very grateful for the countless hours you spend volunteering for our community. If you are planning to return as a volunteer or it will be your first time volunteering, please join us for our orientation on Tuesday, August 5th at 8:30 AM. Orientation is required, along with the necessary paperwork before volunteering on campus. Volunteers are able to visit campus starting August 11th. Thank you for taking the time to support our community!
Arrival/Dismissal Reminders
Our TK/kindergarten students will be on regular schedule this week. TK/Kinder dismissal time Monday-Thursday is 2:15 PM and 12:50 PM on Fridays. As a reminder, traffic will increase at dismissal time with more families on campus. If you need to enter campus, please use our parking lot to park your car and visit campus. Do not leave your car unattended in the designated drop-off and pick-up zone at the front of the school. We thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation, as our children learn from the behaviors that we model.
IMPORTANT:
- Do not block or park in the private driveways of our neighbors.
- Please do not park in any of the red, coned areas, or double park behind vehicles.
- Unless you park in designated parking spots, use the DROP OFF zone to leave your children and pick them up.
- Please do not park in reserved parking spots from 7:15 AM – 3:45 PM.
Please report any safety concerns you notice on campus to the main office. Thank you for following the traffic procedures and respecting our safety patrol who volunteer their time to help our community. We are so appreciative of everyone’s patience as we navigate the safety of our Snowy Owls.
New Reading Assessments
Last Friday, families of our Kindergarten through 2nd grade students received an important letter regarding the new universal screening assessments being implemented in accordance with California Senate Bill 114. These screenings are designed to identify students who may be at risk for reading difficulties, including dyslexia, and will help us provide timely and targeted support. Please take a moment to review the letter linked below for more details.
