A heartfelt THANK YOU to our incredible Snowy Owl community that supported our Apex Fun event this past week! We cannot express how grateful we are for your immense support and active participation in the APEX Fun Run this year! The Apex Fun Run not only allowed us to raise funds for our school but also brought our community together. It provided an opportunity for our school to celebrate our collective achievements. Our Snowy Owls truly enjoyed the week of lessons, friendly competition, and the opportunity to have fun running with their peers.

Our deepest gratitude to our PTA, the volunteers, and families who came out to support our students. Whether you were cheering from the sidelines, helping send pledges to family and friends throughout the week, or assisting with logistics, your unwavering support played a crucial role in helping our school accomplish its goal. We are fortunate to have such an incredible community supporting our students and our school. We would like to extend our sincerest appreciation for making this endeavor a resounding success!

We are looking forward to continuing the memories through our events happening this week such as our Red Ribbon Week, our Trunk or Treat, and our Literature Character Parade. Starting tomorrow, we will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week at school. Please join us in promoting drug prevention and awareness by dressing up for our Spirit Week.

On October 30th, our PTA will host our 2nd Annual Trunk or Treat event from 4-5PM in our school parking lot. Please consider donating a bag of candy to the bin in the main office to facilitate this fun event for our Snowy Owl community. All students must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate and all costumes must be school appropriate. Only costumes that abide by the following guidelines will be allowed to participate in event: no scary costumes, heels, face-painting, masks, or weapons will be allowed.

On Friday, October 31st, students are invited to participate in the Literature Character Parade. Students may dress-up as a character from a favorite children’s book and participate in our parade on our soccer field. For those participating, all costumes must be school appropriate. Only costumes that abide by the following guidelines will be allowed on campus: no scary costumes, heels, face-painting, masks, or weapons will be
allowed. Students will be allowed to carry a book or book image that features their intended character. No other items may be brought to school. Students must obtain approval from their classroom teacher on the costume and character they will represent.

Parents who are interested in participating in the event must check-in through the main office and stand behind their designated classroom. Students will be asked to change out of their costume immediately following the parade as to continue the rest of the academic day free of distractions.

Snowy Owl Expectation Focus

Our goal at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School is to create and maintain a positive and safe learning environment for all and hold students accountable for being positive forces within our school community. The Snowy Owl Expectations are taught, modeled, and practiced throughout all grade levels and locations around campus. For the next two weeks, we will focus and reinforce the expected behaviors for conflict resolution. We appreciate your support in asking your Snowy Owls at home what specific behaviors allow them to be safe, respectful, responsible, and kind when resolving conflicts that may arise.
