We are excited to announce that “Spread the Word and Read Across America” will be celebrated from March 2nd to March 6th! On March 2nd, we will be welcoming guest readers onto our campus to spread the love of reading with our Snowy Owls. March 4th celebrates Spread the Word Day where people worldwide rally to end the use of hurtful language to create a more inclusive future for everyone. We hope to empower our Snowy Owl community that together we can create a society where everyone is valued, celebrated, and free from the impact of harmful stereotypes.

Below, you’ll find details about our fun spirit days. We look forward to seeing our students partake in our spirit days this week and sharing the joy of reading and kindness together!

District Speech Contest

We are incredibly proud to celebrate one of our outstanding 6th grade students, Aria Janus, who earned 2nd Place in the District Speech Contest for the Chula Vista Elementary School District!

Competing among talented students from across the district, our student demonstrated exceptional poise, confidence, and powerful public speaking skills. The District Speech Contest highlights the importance of student voice, critical thinking, and effective communication, skills that are essential for lifelong success. Achieving 2nd place at the district level is an extraordinary accomplishment and a testament to hard work, preparation, and courage.

We would also like to recognize the teachers and family members who supported and encouraged this journey. Success in events like this is truly a team effort, and we are grateful for the guidance and mentorship that helped prepare our student for this opportunity.

Please join us in congratulating our 6th grade scholar on this remarkable achievement. We are so proud of you! 🌟

Snowy Owl Expectation Focus

Our goal at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School is to create and maintain a positive and safe learning environment for all and hold students accountable for being positive forces within our school community. The Snowy Owl Expectations are taught, modeled, and practiced throughout all grade levels and locations around campus. For the next week, we will continue to focus and reinforce the expected behaviors for hallway and stairs. We appreciate your support in asking your Snowy Owls at home what specific behaviors allow them to be safe, respectful, responsible, and kind in the hallway and stairs.

Parent-Teacher Conferences Coming Soon

Spring Parent Teacher Conferences will be taking place from Thursday, March 13th-March 20th. You should be receiving or may have already received information from your child’s teacher.

Our teachers will meet with each parent/legal guardian. Please honor your scheduled conference time or reschedule your time, if something comes up. Often times spring conferences are student-led so that children can articulate their learning to their families! We are also excited about the opportunity to meet with our families to share about each individual’s growth this year!
