Our first week of school was a huge success! 🎉

Thank you for trusting us with your children each day. We are so grateful for the opportunity to be part of their educational journey and to work together as a school community.

I would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible teachers and staff for going above and beyond to make the first week of school extra special for our Snowy Owls. Their dedication, enthusiasm, and hard work helped create a welcoming and exciting start to the year, setting the stage for an amazing year of learning and growth.

We also appreciate your support, encouragement, and partnership. Together, we have given our students a fantastic start, and we are excited about all that lies ahead.

Let’s continue working together to make this a wonderful and memorable year for our Snowy Owls! 🦉💙

Snowy Owl Expectation Focus

At Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School, our goal is to create and maintain a positive, safe, and welcoming learning environment for all students while encouraging them to be positive contributors to our school community. The Snowy Owl Expectations are taught, modeled, and practiced across all grade levels and throughout every area of our campus.

This week, our teachers and staff will be placing extra emphasis on reviewing and reinforcing expected behaviors during recess. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to practice being safe, respectful, responsible, and kind while interacting with their peers.

We appreciate your partnership and support in reinforcing these expectations at home. Please take a few moments to ask your Snowy Owls about the specific behaviors that help keep recess safe, fun, and positive for everyone. Working together, we can help all students continue to grow and thrive as members of our school community.

Back to School Night

Please mark your calendars. Back to School Night is next Thursday, July 30th. This is a great opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, learn about classroom expectations, and hear about the exciting learning experiences planned for the year ahead.

Please see the attached flyer for event details. We look forward to seeing you there!

Dual Immersion Families: We will be hosting a Dual Immersion Information Session at 4:15 p.m. prior to Back-to-School Night. We encourage all Dual Immersion families to attend to learn more about the program and receive important updates for the school year.

TK/Kinder Early Dismissal this Week

Parent Leaders Needed

Are you interested in getting involved at Sotomayor? We need parents to serve on our School Site Council and English Learner Advisory Committee. If you are interested in making decisions about our school budget and School Plan for Student Achievement, please consider getting involved. Our PTA is also looking for parent leaders who would like to join the team! Please let Principal Martha-Irene Garza, marthairene.garza@cvesd.org, know if you would like to join one of the committees.

Traffic: Drop-off and Pick-up

Thank you for helping keep our school community a safe place for all students and families.

As a reminder, families should always use the crosswalk when crossing the street. With ongoing traffic during arrival and dismissal, it is important that everyone remains alert and follows safety procedures.

To help keep traffic moving smoothly, please do not leave your vehicle unattended in the drop-off or pick-up areas, as this can disrupt the flow of traffic. We also ask that drivers be courteous and avoid cutting in front of other vehicles. Cones have been placed to support a safe and efficient traffic pattern, and we appreciate your cooperation in following them.

By working together as a community, we can help ensure the safety and well-being of all our Snowy Owls and their families. Thank you for your partnership and support!
