This week, our school community proudly celebrated Autism Acceptance Week with meaningful events focused on inclusion, belonging, and celebrating neurodiversity. Throughout the week, students and families came together to honor the unique strengths each individual brings to our campus.

We kicked off the celebration with our Super Bubble Buddies Run, where students from our SDC and general education classrooms were paired as buddies for a joyful and engaging activity. We continued with Unified Sports Day, where students had the opportunity to play soccer together and build friendships through teamwork and inclusion. These special events promoted friendship, empathy, and connection while highlighting the power of inclusion in action.

Students also participated in events and fun spirit days throughout the week that encouraged kindness, individuality, and schoolwide unity. We wrapped up the week with our Acceptance Arcade: Inclusive Family Game Night, where families gathered in the MPR for an afternoon of adaptive games, laughter, and community connection. It was wonderful to see students, staff, and families enjoying time together in a welcoming space designed for all.

Thank you to our families, staff, and PTA and SEPAC volunteers for helping make Autism Acceptance Week such a success. Together, we continue building a school where every student feels seen, supported, and valued. At Sotomayor, acceptance and inclusion are celebrated not just this week, but every day. 💙

Snowy Owl Expectation Focus

Our goal at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School is to create and maintain a positive and safe learning environment for all and hold students accountable for being positive forces within our school community. The Snowy Owl Expectations are taught, modeled, and practiced throughout all grade levels and locations around campus. For the next two weeks, we will continue to focus and reinforce the expected behaviors for recess. We appreciate your support in asking your Snowy Owls at home what specific behaviors allow them to be safe, respectful, responsible, and kind at recess.

Spring Pictures

Our spring pictures are here! All Snowy Owls will have the opportunity to take spring pictures on Tuesday, April 21, 2026. There is no need to purchase any photo packages ahead of time, but you can purchase the photos after receiving the proofs. We hope to see everyone dress their best for spring pictures!
